The MIPS system found in Bell Super 2R MIPS Helmet is designed to mimic what your brain and skull do in an impact namely allow a little bit of movement in order to protect the more important component. In your brain case there a fluid layer between the brain and the skull that acts as a buffer. In the Super 2R it a floating harness that allows independent movement of the shell and liner. Taking inspiration from motorcycle helmets the Super 2R features a detachable chinbar designed to be attached quickly and easily when you get to the summit and start descending or at the start of a timed Enduro stage and then removed for transition .
